It's what you didn't know you needed.
1 of 1 found this helpful The coating works to prevent scratching other metal products in the same pocket. The lid of the flask has metal on the lid and the flask as opposed to the metal/plastic interface on some other flasks. This should be better protection against cross threading which is a problem with the metal/plastic types. I an so conditioned to unscrew the lid till I feel the click of the threads snapping into place before screwing it down that this probably won't make any real difference. But it should be more robust.

Manufacturing as high art.
This is a gorgeous example of Chinese manufacturing prowess. These are beautifully made and marvelously functional. They keep hot liquids hot and being borosilicate glass don't scratch. If you look very closely you can see hints of how they are made. Awesome.
