High-End Quality & Versatile BDP
5 of 5 found this helpful The durable build quality I noticed immediately. All metal chassis/casing. Gold plated very strong RCA jacks. All digital hacks seem very solid, as are the buttons on the face of the unit.
This plays SACD, DVD-Audio & HDCD and can send the audio via HDMI or analogue outs(RCA). I own a Sony, Pioneer Elite, and Samsung BDP yet I swear this Oppo sounds better on all my discs and I have an ample collection of hi-res music discs. I don't have multi-channel RCA inputs on my Yamaha A730 so I listen via HDMI mostly though I do have stereo analogue lines hooked into my Audio 1 input from the Oppo. I wouldn't say the built in DACs are better than the Yamaha's(Burr-Brown) but I like having the option for 2-channel sources. It also gives me the advantage of utilizing the various sound fields of the Yami that are disabled via HDMI when playing hi-res discs with ultra high sampling rates like 192hz. I love listening to 2-channel studio music in "7-Channel Stereo" mode.
Image quality is spectacular and DVD up-conversion is stellar, best I've ever seen. Makes me wonder how good the Darby version is. I'm content with this ordinary 103 for video. I bought it mainly for music. That said now I really want the 105(or 205) for its superior Sabre DACs even though they would only come into play for stereo(not multi-channel) on my current AVR. I will eventually upgrade my AVR to a top-line or near top-line Yamaha Aventage(which also use Sabre DACs) or Marantz, or possibly Sony ES.
Overall this Oppo 103 is a top notch BDP and worth for me every penny I paid. I do not yet own a 4k tv so not certain on its 4k conversion but I would expect it to be fine. My TV is a 55" Panasonic 530U(1080p, true 120hz refresh w/ 240 backlight blinking and true film cadence capability). I did test the DVD 24p conversion and it worked with both HDMI outs. I turned it off because most of my DVDs are music not shot at 24p. The 24p for blu~ray is stellar. This thing gets video right and sounds better than any other BDP I've ever heard.

High value attractive speaker
Looks as good or better in real life. Build quality is superb. I have the natural walnut finish which I thought looked the most upscale. Sound quality is excellent, especially considering I paid less than $100. Solid bass yet not overwhelming. Highs are present but not bright or grating. Smooth, rich sound with a high end vibe but it’s not a flavored sound. Separate bass & treble controls function well. Volume is higher than most anything else at this price range yet I still wish it went louder. Works fine wired to an Echo Dot but it takes a second to wake up after no active signal for a few minutes. It’s Bluetooth sounds good too and although I was able to use it with low latency I’ve yet to trigger the AptX function(I think). I use a long range BT transmitter from my main surround system(for hi-res discs & vinyl)with low latency AptX but only the “LL” indicator lights up on the transmitter, not the AptX indicator. That said it sounds excellent via BT with no perceivable delay. It’s probably something I’m not understanding. I also paired it with another speaker via BT(that speaker had a slight delay). I wish this Fluance has speaker covers, either grills just across the speakers themselves or fabric across the entire face. Not just for protection, I think the speaker would look even better with cover(s). All in all this a fine speaker with an upscale vibe.

Attractive value
4 stars due to low price. It looks in real life as it does in pics. MDF is far superior to particle board and plywood or plastic, though this is a less dense version than found in decent speakers. Top looks real unless studied very close. Starting to think the use of term veneer is abused. Seems manufactures are calling any wood-grain like wrap a veneer. Pretty sure the top is not genuine veneer. Upon close inspection it seems to be synthetic.
Either way the table is sturdy & good looking, and appears real. Good job of faking it. At less than $40 it's a legit value.
