Heartbroken - good sound, bad technical quality
5 of 5 found this helpful I've been a Skullcandy "fan" for a long time, but I'm giving up on them now. This is the fourth time I've purchased one of their wireless earbuds, and one side failed within months - if not weeks - of purchase.
Skullcandy headphones have awesome sound and good bass, which is what I love. The app is intuitive and easy to pair with. Specifically, I found the Indy ANC easy to pair and wear - the ear anchors felt secure in my ears, which is important to me during my walks and kettlebell sessions.
However, be ready for either the right side or the left side of the Indy ANC's to fail within two months of purchase. Though Skullcandy has a generous warranty, you can only contact them so much before you'll just get offered store credit to purchase another model from their collection. You would think that Skullcandy would have done more work on making sure their products last more than 2-6 months, let alone a year.
The eBay seller is totally not at fault, here. It's a Skullcandy design flaw that the right earbud will eventually stop charging, no matter what "fixes" or re-pairing you try to do to make it work again.
I even paid full price (last year) for one of their special edition Indy ANC earbuds (for a fundraiser). And yet when that model failed, I was sent their base color model as a warranty replacement.
At the end of the day, I just want earbuds that "work" without trauma, and that will last for more than 2-6 months.
I gave the Indy ANC's 3 stars because if you do decide to purchase them as refurbished, at least you won't be out of too much money when they eventually fail to charge. Also, 3 stars is for acknowledging that Skullcandy does have excellent sound and fit, the active noise cancelling is good (as well as their ambient mode), and the ability to create a custom sound profile is fun.
Just don't expect to have them work past a certain point. Once one or both sides stop charging, they're no longer useful. Buyer beware!
