Excellent replacement gear superior to the original (nylon rather than cheaper ABS plastic).
This is an upgraded gear used in the Hunt Boston model 17 pencil sharpener: the key gear that tends to fail and prompt a user to normally toss the sharpener away and buy another one. The sharpener is excellent though, and otherwise very sturdy and well-made. For 1/10 the cost of new sharpener of equivalent quality, you can repair this gear yourself and keep another product from the landfill.

Inexpensive, smooth-dimming, traditional incandescent that works with any dimmer
For some specialized applications, a very low wattage bulb such as this is a fast, easy, inexpensive way to get the job done. I've had poor luck with led solutions: they do not dim in a nice linear, non-flicker way unless fairly expensive electronic dimmer switches are used that are designed for leds, and they are often 5-10 times the price. The "rated life" seems to be a bit of an advertising promise that I've found doesn't hold up: I've tried many types within the candelabra socket size and I've found they don't last more than a couple of years. Some types encased in plastic tend to yellow with aging. In contrast, I use these incandescents with a cheap dimmer and often run them about 30 - 70% of their max and they last for years with a no-flicker smooth warm light. I've used these bulbs for under-step dimmed lighting and for recessed accent lighting on a stone feature wall.
