Twilight and Vision
Twilight of the Shadows contains some of LaSalle's most vivid books. It draws on a cross section of handsome men. LaSalle's visual insight of what it means to be a man virile, powerful, and beautiful.There is a good deal of fearless, full frontal nudity that is intended to arouse the viewer into being engaged as a witness to male beauty. His technical skills are formidable, but his vision and imagination is even more so.

Virility Re-encountered
Michael Stokes' photographic monograph addresses the various ways Masculinity can be both experienced and witnessed. The obvious hallmark of Stoke's work are present, superb photographic technical skills, an ability to use light and shadow as though they were iridescent paint, and the employment of extremely handsome models. They are seen in a variety masculine identities and in various stages of nudity up to and including full frontal photographs. The other more crucial characteristics of Stokes' work are present: his refusal to treat his models as objects, they are seen as genuine human beings who are also startlingly handsome. Through the artist's lenses and vision they are also seen with compassion. Both of these last traits invite and challenge the one who opens the pages of this book to do more than just look but to witness the various possibilities and promises of masculinity.
