If your cable is damaged this is the only reason you'd need it

Decent soundcard but drivers are EOL
1 of 1 found this helpful Bought this as a gaming soundcard to try to troubleshoot potential audio driver latency issues with my onboard sound.
Windows 10 doesn't natively support it; although it installs a driver, audio works until a reboot, then silence. The Creative driver is EOL but is written for Windows 10, the sound card works but I had to install a trial download to restore the flexi-jack functionality for the microphone.
It didn't help with the issue, but points aside it didn't create new ones or perform any worse.

Truly ground-breaking and ahead of it's time
1 of 1 found this helpful Needed something to watch after 'Breaking Bad'. Hadn't seen 'The Sopranos', so watched that - was excellent. Tried 'The Wire' but couldn't get into it so gave up. I'd seen this when it origianlly was aired in the UK (on Channel 4, I believe).
I loved it but wasn't sure if I'd seen all the episodes. This was the perfect excuse to revisit the series after seeing such fine examples of a serial drama.
Although the era's fashions make it an unintentional period piece, it has lost absolutely nothing in terms of the excellent characterisations and directorial style. It has a 'lo-fi handicam' budget feel about it, although a lot of it is probably just that way because of the tech of the time. The source material isn't DVD quality and maybe the transfer wasn't anything more than purely functional. It's certainly no restoration project - there are no extras - just the episodes, raw and undiluted.
If you were to watch this, I guarantee you will love or 'love to loathe' every member of the core cast and recurring characters. They are all very human and flawed, nothing like the supercool, superhero wannabees of other less cultured shows of the genre. It does crossover from being a typical police procedural into the realm of genuine drama, so you don't have to like that type of show to be a fan, but if you are there is a good chance that this will be one of your all-time favourites because it is a 'police procedural plus'.
The addition and subtraction of some of the Homicide team members doesn't really alter the dynamic throughout. You get involved and stay involved, because the writing is strong and the backstory and character development continues to keep giving.
I imagine that although Giardello and most of his crew are long gone, their counterparts will still be chewing the cud over the ins-and-outs of 'the job', while drinking the lousy coffee and complaining about the dicky plumbing. The phones will still ring that same ring.
It might be 20 years ago, but this is a series that has stood the test of time.
