An Honest to Goodness Southern Girl
Ashton's debut album is a breath of fresh country air compared to most of the contrived mainstream crap pouring out of the big Nashville labels these days. Ashton is one of the most unique female country singers to appear since Gretchen Wilson and treads a bit of the same territory but with a different perspective. I think its safe to say those folks that like Gretchen will like Ashton as well, and that's a good place to start in my opinion.
Like Taylor Swift did on her debut Ashton pretty much wrote all the songs on this album, so it is totally hers. Unlike Taylor Swift Ashton has a strong and clear voice that stays on pitch and is totally listenable for the long haul. Ashton got married and had a baby right out of high school and she writes and sings about those things she knows through experience. Its not like the high concept songwriting of Music Row's best that gets handed to Carrie Underwood, but instead is more honest and gritty the way real country music ought to be. The melodies are catchy, the lyrics are authentic, and the songs cover a range of tempos all anchored by Ashton's unique and powerful voice. My only complaint is that the production by Buddy Cannon gets a bit heavy at times on the southern rock oriented songs, but overall this debut is a keeper.

Average Sound Quality for a Sealed-Back Midrange Driver
For the price of this driver I wasn't expecting high fidelity performance, and it wasn't. This driver exhibits a broad response dip right in the frequency range where the fundamental tones of voices and instruments lie, ie the mid-midrange frequencies that are so critical to accurate response. This is not unusual for sealed back 5 inch midrange drivers that often exhibit a sunken or recessed sound quality. This is a decent sounding driver for what it is and for the money it is a good value for mid-fi home stereo or automotive applications.
