Required reading, sans the skewed introductions.
The writings of the early Church fathers are of critical importance to anyone who desires a full, original understanding of Holy Scriptures and how they were lived out in the first centuries of the Church. These writings are very much under-appreciated by modern Christianity (most, of whom, do not even realize they exist) and much of what is written will come as a surprise to those who live in that world of multi-denominaitons. Even the introduction in the first volume diminishes the value of these authors by referring to their witness as "primitive," "simple, and child-like." I shake my head at the gall of such a description, especially when viewed through the lens of what now passes as "theology" and "biblical interpretation," particularly within America. These volumes are worth every inch of the space they require in one's library...although some space could be saved if the introductions had been left out. The unchanged teachings within these volumes still exist in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Read some of these in order to familiarize yourself with the Early Church, then come and see.
