Great Purchase!
I originally wanted a 2019 MBP 16 because I own it before it succame to fall damage. When I saw the prices for the M1 Pro 16 however, my plans came to an immediate halt. To think that the laptop that originally cost $2500 could not be had for under $2000 for a 512 GB model, let alone a 1 TB model for ~ $1700 after taxes? That's insane! I bought my laptop in "Excellent" condition, it came true to it's listing. I expected at least one scratch due to my prior experience with so-called "excellent" or "like new" refurbished products. Not one scratch or ding. I certainly got what I paid for.
A MacBook of this caliber is meant for pros or hardcore enthusiasts. I'm not a pro. I don't use it to edit 8K RAW video or do any pro editing, although I do dabble for some audio work. I would consider myself a power user, in that I have dozens of tabs open at once, keep programs open, etc. This MBP can handle anything you throw at it. Coming from a 2015 MBP, I expected a lot, but I am beyond impressed. I have owned the laptop for about 2 weeks now, and I expect I'll be keeping this laptop for the next 7+ years.
The battery life is great. It really does last all day. I couldn't bring my last laptop to the library because I knew it would die within the next 3 hours, easy. I can use it for a solid 6 hours straight and it be on around 60%. As a student, longevity is important to me as I won't always be able to be near a wall and plug in, waiting on a charge to top up. I'm quite grateful.
The speakers are amazing. Coming from the 2019 16" I knew what good speakers sound like. These are even better. Good bass, gets very loud, and can fill a large to medium sized room easily. Best speakers on a laptop bar none.
The display is a treat to look at. Not quite OLED quality, but damn close. It does have the infamous notch at the top to house the new camera module, but it's not as big a deal as some make it out to be. The Mac OS does a good job of hiding it. Even when it's not hidden, it's very easy to forget about.
All the practical ports from the 2015 MBP are back, so we techies and many pros will appreciate that.
The trackpad is just as big as on the 2019 16". One can comfortably scroll around without issue. Mac seems to have the best gesture setup in the industry so they're even better to use on such a laptop.
This MacBook has two fans, and I have yet to hear them. Granted, I'm not pushing it as hard as I possibly can, but I know that if I wanted to, I could undertake larger problems without worrying about if the laptop can handle it.
All in all, the laptop is great. I this time, I don't really have anything negative to say, but I'll update this post if anything arises.
