Absolutely Essential for Indoors
Makes a world of difference when talking indoor photos. The flash is pretty useless without it in fact. It's a very simple device and could probably be manufactured for a few cents, but the results are fantastic and the design is excellent.

Vastly inferior to the 5T
Previously used a Nex-6 as well as a Nex-5T. Both were excellent. The chief problem with the 5N is the difficulty in getting the flash to work consistently with good results. I'm not sure what they did between the 5N and the 5T, but the flash integration is much improved on the later model.
On another note, none of the NEX cameras hold up well to being dropped, an issue with toddlers. Highly recommend consistent use of the neck strap.
