Exactly! And the people who own them.
Wonderful stories from a sensitive, compassionate, funny man who loved animals and the people who owned them. There's beauty, pathos, humor and the joy of living, along with the quirks of the characters and the added appreciation for the fact that every chapter is a story in itself, so you don't have to read the whole book in a day to get the gist - unless you want to. I buy these and give them to people because I think they are so special, as was the author.

The trials of trying to paint a cathedral ceiling
I gave this to my teen granddaughter who has an interest in the Medici family. I remember reading it when i was her age, and I was so enthralled, I read the entire 700+ page book in about three days. I hope she finds it as fascinating.
