A portrait of a small Michigan town with compelling characters.
Viola Shipman, using his grandmother's name as his pen name is an awesome young writer who creates beautiful images with words. all of his books are special and I love the Heirloom Garden since the location is only a few miles from our home. I recommend all of his books and if you live in Michigan, his books are a must.

a walk down memory lane
We lived in Minnesota long ago and loved going to Daytons since they had acquired J L Hudson's, from Detroit, Michigan where I grew up. It was fun to read about Daytons and especially enjoy the pictures which brought back lots of happy memories shopping at Daytons at Christmas time, and thinking of Hudson's too. The book is a treasure. It's always a treat to see what our big cities stores were like long ago-

Why young people are leaving organized religion
IAn interesting commentary on organized religion in the 21st century, and ironically written by a former Catholic priest. Great for group discussion. An easy read . I loved it.
