Excellent value for money, recommended for casual hobbyist
1 of 1 found this helpful There's been much said about this lovely knock-off both good and bad. We have some praising it for its value, utility and sturdy construction, and some like Louis Rossmann who hates it so much he spends half a video beating it to a pulp with a metal rod (go see the video, it's hilarious). Both are correct.
This will not be a stellar "Hakko killer" soldering station but it will do the job for a casual/weekend hobbyist and really is great value for the money. If one is upgrading from a crappy 30W plug-in iron - this will be a dream to use. The iron heats up fast and maintains temperature well. Sad there's no digital display for the iron temp as there is for the gun but it doesn't matter really. The dial is fairly accurate and soldering is a breeze at the 350°C setting. One note - it only comes with a quite small conical tip, so I'd recommend picking up the assortment pack of tips for this iron.
If you intend to do serious hot air reflow work - this is not the product for you. The air gun does work but you will be better off with the Hakko which can put out more power. It's great for lower temperature solders and for stuff like heatsthrink tubing and softening adhesives.
The build quality is generally acceptable. The main case is quite sturdy, metal and rugged. The soldering iron feels plasticy and I wouldn't recommend putting too much force on it. The hot air gun feels cheap and plasticy in the hand but is well assembled and will not come apart in your hand. You can mount the hot air gun's cradle on the left or right side as suits your preference. It has a reed switch inside that will shut it down when cradled (after blowing some air through) and does also have a thermal shutdown safety if it gets too hot.
Strangely, it comes with a plastic piece and some wire and a couple of hardware bits that seem to have no place on the unit itself. It looks like an antenna, though this unit has no wireless functionality whatsoever. I've heard it suggested that it is an SMD chip puller but how it functions is beyond me and the manual doesn't mention it. Oh - and the manual mentions almost nothing and the english section is quite amusing for its machine translation. Generally - you'll figure out everything on your own and that's fine. It's not complicated.
One important thing - in the past some have complained it comes with an un-grounded (2 prong) plug. This seems to have been corrected. Mine is properly grounded and has a 3-prong plug.
Final verdict - I like it fine, it's way better than what I had more and is working well for my purposes. I would recommend it to casual hobbyists as great value for the money.

Love this specific performance, was overjoyed to find a used copy on ebay!
I actually found this specific performance on youtube a few years back and loved it so much. Since it was taken down due to lawyers being lawyers, I thought I'd seek out a DVD copy that might be kicking around. Ebay to the rescue! Now I can enjoy this wonderful top notch performance by two great bands teaming up. Will watch it many times over.

Great value for an industry leading product range
The samsung evo series is a known leader in quality, reliability and speed. while the 860 is no longer the bleeding edge top of the line model, it is still up there and that makes it a great value having fallen in price. I bought two, and both are deployed and running happily right now.
