It fixed my phone, and now I'm happy. I haven't had the battery run dead yet.

This deck screams SYSTEM BUILDER!
This deck was a handsome upgrade to the Wal-Mart KW-SX83BTS (a good deck in its own right) and it was only about 10-15 dollars more. I loved how the high volt preouts made my 3 amplifier system sound, and that was the kicker for me. It sounds so much fuller and the amps seemed to have better headroom and don't distort nearly as easily on high volume. It seemed to have better guts than the KW-SX83BTS, especially the preout section. Definitely a system builder unit...
The radio picks up fantastic - a big upgrade to the earlier JVC units that had the HS-II tuner that tended to have average to below average sensitivity and selectivity. I like that it has RDS as well and you can see what's playing.
I still have CDs, and this unit played them quite well and I liked how it shows the name of the song if the CD has text (the KW-SX83BTS didn't have a CD player).
The next thing that I like is the simple layout of the buttons. They are all in the right place and the right size. There are no tiny buttons cluttering the faceplate and that makes it easier to use, especially when your eyes are on the road. You can easily navigate them by feel.
The cherry on top is the crossover system they use. I like how you can use the preouts like you would use an add-on electronic crossover. Instead of the usual "front-rear-sub" configuration, you can set up which set of preamp outs handle which kind of speakers, like what you get with component speakers that have separate woofers and tweeters. For example, you can use one set to handle the tweeters, the second set for the midrange speakers (6.5", 6"x9"s, 5.25" etc) and the third set for the subwoofers. I am willing to sacrifice the fader controls for something like this. I used to only be able to find this feature on uber high end units like pioneer's DEX-P99RS that cost over $1000. Now I have it here!
The one thing I can say I don't like about this unit is the display - it's a little dark and the glossy plastic reflects too much glare. It would be better if they had used a bright LED dot matrix display and matte plastic. Sure, you can go to touchscreen, but I have seen decks that have a touchscreen, but skimp on the features, and this unit doesn't do that.

excellent sounding and performing system builder deck!!
2 of 2 found this helpful i bought this pioneer from ebay because i think the new headunits that pioneer make today are just downright ugly (i HATE HAVING TO GO TO A MENU TO DO WHAT USED TO BE A ONE BUTTON OPERATION IN PREVIOUS MODELS!!).
this gem has all of those bells and whistles (except the built in usb, but what the heck; EVERY SINCE PIONEER STARTED GETTING INTO THE IPOD CRAZE SINCE 2008, THEIR HEAD UNITS HAVE SUCKED WORSE AND WORSE!!).
THE PREAMPS/BUILT IN POWER/CONNECTIVITY:
it has three sets of outputs that allow you to be able to run multiple amplifiers in order to have better control of them. i love how the built in high/low pass crossover makes my amplifiers sound, especially on my 6 1/2" alpines and Sony 6x9's running off of a 200 watt vr3 amp (yes, a VERY CHEAP red heat sink Plexiglas wally world amp); it even makes THAT amplifier sound great. the 4 volt outputs make a huge difference too. the mosfet 50 internal power sounds great, but nothing compared to even a cheap outboard amp, which is what i prefer for all my speakers. i also like the aux in for my ipod, which is all i need for it; i dont use the built in interface because i run rockbox firmware on my nano and the head unit doesn't work with it (thats okay, because rockbox sounds, looks, and plays WAY better and plays more file formats anyway!)
THE RADIO:
another BIG reason i bought this head is because i am a BIG FAN of the supertuner IIID tuner pioneer puts in their units. i am an avid dxer and this is BY FAR the most sensitive, selective, and best sounding tuners i have ever tried. where i live is a local station on 99.7 fm that is very strong (i live 10 miles from it) and i am still able to pick up 99.9 ktcs FM out of ft. smith, arkansas with scarcely any interference from the neighboring station (holds on to them)!! thats the test for a great tuner around here. it also picks up just about all of the AM stations in missouri, kansas, oklahoma, and arkansas (daytime) about 400 miles out with no problem on a clear day.
THE COSMETICS:
the cosmetics are another big thing that drew me to this gem. it has well spaced buttons that are easy to locate by feel (although the bottom buttons could be a tad bigger and the buttons more brightly illuminated) and are easy to use. at the same time, the face isn't cluttered with excessive buttons and is very intuitive.the garbage pioneer puts out today has almost no buttons and force the user to either go through endless menus or have to use a separate remote to get to what used to be one button operations.
THE DISPLAY:
I like the segmented OEL because its very bright and doesn't wash out in the sun like most others that are too dark. i have NEVER needed to cup my hand over the display to see it on bright sunny days. I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS: FLASHY JUNK GETS OLD VERY QUICKLY AND ONLY LOOKS GOOD IN THE SHOWROOM, NOT IN THE REAL WORLD!! I like the large characters on the 2-line display; pioneer used the large display for TEXT, not SWIMMING DOLPHINS OR ANY OTHER CORNY GRAPHICS crap THAT GETS LAME QUICKLY with puny text.
THE CD PLAYER:
from what i have tried of the CD player it sounds VERY SMOOTH but it doesnt do with scratched disks (but a little better than the others). i mainly play mp3 disks in the CD section and i have noticed that the track access time is very fast and smooth.
OVERALL:
this is an awesome unit and i highly recommend it!! it makes a great system builder, has straghtforward looks, is easy to use, and you cant go wrong with it!
