Truly Exceptional for low light and for wide angle
1 of 1 found this helpful This is an outstanding camera in most dimmensions and specs, and stands out in low light situations and for its wide angle lens capability (24mm SLR equivalent).
This little camera lacks nothing for its class - $250-$300 - and surpasses other like class cameras on most specs and features.
Forgetting all the details, specs, and features, this camera is a joy to own and use. The form factor is compact, easily slipping into a shirt pocket. Controls are simple and intuative once you've read the manual. In fact, EVERY control button, location, and design is a step up from my prior Sony WS55 camera bought 5 years ago (and still working fine after moderate use).
For me, the reason to upgrade from my WS55 was for the two mentioned attributes of low light and wide angle; both often used for work and play.
The WX1 does many things my old Sony does not do including panorama, movie,
and rapid succession sequences, but I'm unlikely to use these unless I move back to hobby shooting.
The WX1 was recently $350 plus a decent 8GB Pro Duo memory stick (about $30). Now, with a replacement model being introduced, the WX1 is $249 at the Sony site, and at times, even less at ebay. A true bargain.
Will most users use the low light capability? Yes they will, and it is automatic.
Will most users use the wide angle 24MM lens setting? Yes they will, and it is the default lens position.

Built to last and look good while doing it
Solid brass with ceramic washers built to last for decades.... at just 30% more than the $150 units sold at the home store built to last for a couple of years. Everything is correct; design materials, instructions, packaging, and finish.
This replaced a home store Delta $150 unit that corroded in 5 years. In another bath a Delta $150 "oiled bronze" faucet corroded in 3 years - Delta did send a replacement but only after they were send incriminating photographic evidence. Delta refused to allow me to upgrade to a solid brass model and I offered them money to do it. BTW, we have good water quality in our city; not a cause.
