I purchased this processor for my son's computer. He was running an I3 2130 previously.
I bought some new thermal compound from best buy and went got to work.
We removed and cleaned up the old processor and just dropped the I7 3770s in.
Applied new thermal paste, and put the original I3 fan and heat sink on it.
It powered up first time and after Windows 10 got done installing the appropriate drives to support the I7's 8 virtual cores (4 real cores) I checked the thermals with and without load and it was running nice and cool.
The I7 has been running for about 2 weeks now and is still performing perfectly.
This was a great experience and a nice cheap upgrade with a lot of bang for the buck.
If you can spare the money for the upgrade and your bios/motherboard will support this processor, I highly recommend the I7 3770.
The board works absolutely great! I moved the CPU and Ram from a Lenovo ThinkCenter and got a 10% increase in performance without doing anything except setting the memory to XMP. Great board, solid as a rock. Lots of features!
