Excellent for Preppers/Survivalists!!!
1 of 1 found this helpful I owned one of these little radios 10 or 15 years ago when I lived in Chicago. So I knew it was a quality item. I have been wanting to buy another one for quite a while now and when I found these re-furbs on eBay I pulled out the card and ordered one!
I live about 90 miles outside of Chicago now and after less than a week I have heard AM stations (at night of course) from Iowa, NYC, Atlanta, Louisville, St. Louis and 3 from Canada. This little radio has excellent reception AND REJECTION! That is, the SRF-M37W does a really good job of keeping adjoining frequencies from "walking" on your chosen station. From my bedroom I am able to gather news and info from all across the Midwest to the Eastern Seaboard and down South as far as Georgia!!! For a $22 radio???!
The reason I say these are great for Preppers and Survivalists is
#1- Headphones or earbuds only means no one else will hear your radio if your "bugged-out" and don't want any human contact.
#2- the battery will last much longer because headphones/earbuds use much less power than a speaker.
Another thing I REALLY like about this little radio is the AM is mono only, so you hear the sound in both ears even if you're using stereo headphones/earbuds! (FM, is stereo)
I have never bought re-furbed electronics before, so I only bought one to check it out- it looks essentially brand new.
It works fine, I believe it has some kind of warranty and if I lose or break it...no big deal.
I plan to buy at least two more of these radios- one for my bug-out bag, one to keep in my winter coat and the one I already bought I will use around the house or when I'm working.
Best $22 I've spent in a long time!
