Compelling story of the life of a liguistic savant that becomes a Roman spy.

The saga starts with a detail of life in Rome under the reign of Emperor Nero and the lead character, Caepio, plotting to get his lifelong friend, future Emperor Vespasian, out of a certain destiny of harms way in Rome by convincing Nero that Vespasian is the only viable solution for quelling an uprising in Israel. The story unfolds after the Roman Army reaches Israel and Caepio brings an experienced engineer to Israel for the purpose of building siege towers for the Roman Army to penetrate the fortified walls surrounding Yodfat and Jerusalem. We find out during a flashback that the engineer was once saved from certain death by Jesus when a younger Caepio served under his father in Galilee. The story details how the engineer was saved by embellishing the son of the centurion account in the book of Matthew. Then, the engineer is told of how the disciples were protected by his father after the crucifixion of Jesus and their journey from Jerusalem to Galilee are spellbinding. The story is fiction based on fact, and the author has obviously done a remarkable amount of research to tell a fascinating story.
