AVAST! The Buccaneers are on DVD!
1 of 1 found this helpful Look, either you watched The Buccaneers as a child or you didn’t. If you did, buy a copy of the DVD set, your synapses will thank you for it. And if you didn’t (and can tolerate 1950s period melodrama) buy it and enjoy it anyway.

The Hand of the Hawk (from episode #14)
Come gather ‘round mates,
While I sing this strange tale…
‘Twas a bright winter’s day when we sighted a sail…
And captured a treasure of fine silver plate…
And five hundred Spanish pieces of eight.
Oh, the ocean is wide and the ocean is cold,
And they say there’s a black curse upon pirate’s gold.
I’d seen treasure before, mates,
But none rich as that…
We buried out there on the back of the Cat…
And when it was buried all deep in the ground…
without warning, the hand of the Hawk struck me down.
Oh, the ocean is wide and the ocean is cold,
And they say there’s a black curse upon pirate’s gold.
Now if you wonder how this song came to be…
‘Twas a man… Shanty Jack… who taught it to me.

Buy it for the "Proms"
1 of 1 found this helpful Look, "The Next Doctor" is a fine Doctor Who yarn. Plot: The Doctor saves the world (or at least London) at Christmas. Got it? He has done it various times since the BBC rebooted the series and will probably do it again -- possibly as soon as the next Doctor Who Christmas Special. If you need more, check Wikipedia.
Now the REAL reason to buy "The Next Doctor" is the DVD extra "Doctor Who at the Proms" (hosted by Freema Agyeman), an hour-long concert of Who-related music with visits by various "guests" (companions and enemies) that will tickle your synapses. Adding any more would just spoil it. This "extra" is with the price of admission all by itself!

Ear Candy, not Science Fiction
Despite being set 50 years in the future, this is not an SF mystery. What it is is an entertaining police procedural that is above par for J. D. Robb's (pseud.) "In Death" series. (The whole "In Death" series consists of action - romance - cum - mysteries. If you're looking for science fiction, look elsewhere - like "The Gripping Hand" by Niven & Pournelle. But if you're not put off by made up slang words or the incongruity of a working cop married to a multi-billionaire (yeah, like THAT's ever going to happen!), give them a read / listen.)
I'm a nut for the cassette audiobook format as it gives me something to listen to when I drive plus it is easier to back-up and repeat something one missed than in the CD audiobook format.
Robb's painted herself into a corner by invoking a serial killer who copies various other serial killers starting with Jolly Jack the Ripper, but including one that hasn't happened as yet. The result is that she doesn't quite play fair because she can't. Enjoy this one.
