Worked perfectly to replace my Fire Magic ignitor
The ignitors on my Fire Magic Regal II gas grill has been a problem for years: the push button simply does not stay on. Drilling out the mount hole a bit to fit this ignitor worked perfectly!

Perfect watch for world travel. Very smart looking.
This Seiko TITANIUM SSE075 just arrived, and I am very impressed. It synced up to GPS signals perfectly the first time. Yes, its pricey, but the black with rose gold accents is very impressive, and the titanium is comfortably light on the wrist (I am not sure I would want the weight of stainless in a watch this size). When I ordered this watch online I was worried the watch face would be too large on my small wrist, but it looks great. And I am excited to finally have a travel watch that calibrates to the atomic time anywhere in the world automatically.
Atomic watches have been around for years. The early versions of these watches contained an analog radio receiver with an antenna. They were mostly plastic, so the signal could reach the antenna. They picked up the low frequency sync signal from the atomic clock located in Fort Collins, Colorado. The further you were from the signal source, the more difficult it was to get a sync signal due to the curvature of the earth. If you lived in Florida for example, it was tough to get good enough reception for the sync to work reliably.
Later, “world” atomic watches came on the market which could sync to any of six atomic clocks in major cities around the world. This was an improvement for world travelers but capturing a sync signal still depended on your proximity to the local atomic clock.
The big advantage of the Seiko GPS watch over older atomic watches is that it receives the much more reliable signals from the GPS NAVSTAR satellites which circle the globe, the same satellites that your car GPS system uses. And by receiving signals from multiple satellites, it can also determine your latitude/longitude, and from that it can figure out which of 40 time zones you are currently in. GPS satellites are accurate to within 1 second per 100,000 years!
It takes some time to get through the manual, and the text is tiny so you’ll want to download the PDF version (https://www.seiko-watch.co.jp/support/instruction/pdf/8X53_en.pdf). I had to read through it several times to fully understand how the zone and time updates work. I ran through all of the different setting modes and they all work as expected.
The solar charge can last for months due to the GPS receiver only being turned on when light is sufficiently charging the battery or when you change time zones. The time of day the watch will attempt an automatic time update is based on the last time you performed a manual update.
One thing to be aware of is that while the time will automatically update based on the GPS signal once per day (given at least one satellite detected and sufficient light), time zone updates require at least 4 satellites and must be updated manually by pressing a button. So, when you arrive in a new location you have to press the top button for 6 seconds to update the time zone. Not a huge inconvenience, but also not truly 100% automatic.
One other thing to be aware of: While adjusting the bracelet for my smaller wrist, I came across something I have never seen before. When you push the pins out of the links, you may find that they do not fit when you go to re-insert them. It took me a while to figure out what was going on, but I finally found a tiny “sleeve” that had fallen out of the inside of one of the links. This sleeve grabs the pin, so it stays in place. Without it, the pin will just fall out. I apparently lost one of the sleeves, so I replaced it with a more standard pin that I had in my watch kit. I have no idea why they do it this way, but it really had me confused for a while.
I am a big fan of smart watches (I have an Apple Watch and a Tag Heuer 45) but battery life is a huge problem for these devices. That’s why I am sold on solar technology for a travel watch. And sure, there are plenty of solar, atomic and GPS watches out there. But as far as I can tell Seiko is the only manufacturer to put all three technologies into one watch and the results are impressive. I am confident that the Seiko SSE075 will be my new go-to watch for daily wear as well as world travel.
