The Odd Couple?
This disc has a peculiar coupling. Don't know why these two works were paired together on a CD but the result is great. Most listeners familiar to Schmidt's symphony no. 1 will appreciate this fresh and exciting approach that Jarvi and his Detroit forces deliver. This is overdue with the only other well known choice in this work being from Marco Polo with the Budapest Symphony and Michael Halasz conducting. This is rather dull with average at best sonics leaves the listener with a less than memorable experience. The Detroit symphony is a much improved orchestra since Jarvi took over. The Detroit brass is electric to hear along with the rest of the orchestra as well. Jarvi conducts a fantastic performance that is anything but dull. The Strauss is done in an equally high standard also. After hearing this whole disc the listener comes away with a sense that maybe Schmidt and Strauss do go together after all. A tribute to Jarvi and his Detroit forces!! If you like this disc be sure to listen to the Detroit Symphony with Jarvi also on Chanados perform Samuel Barber's symphonies nos. 1 and 2. There is no other better performance of the Barber first symphony than this one. Go ahead, give it a try. You will not be disappointed. Fantastic state of the art sound on both of these Jarvi discs!!

Only for minor anxiety
2 of 2 found this helpful Will work ok for occasional use with minor anxiety. Your body gets used to it quickly and doesn't work well if used too much. But worth a try if for minor anxiety not on a daily basis.

A little flimsy for a .50 pick but nice
Was glad I ordered this pick. The cork backing provides great support and control allowing the player to perform things easier and better than without it. However I noticed it was a bit flimsy, or thin, for a .50mm pick. Also this tended to make the pick a little warped shortly after using it. This is probably not a problem for most players but seemed to make the life of the pick much shorter than usual. But overall I like the cork backing. Just will be looking for a .60mm size next time.
