Inktense are so intense!
Many of the colours are not especially lightfast. However, they are so intense and so quick & easy to use for sketches and studies that they have a place in my studio. These sticks add to the spontaneity available with the pencils. As does their water solubility. They complement each other well.
Inktense are different than watercolour pencils and paints because once they are wet, (and dry) they become permanent. This means that one has to work quickly as any unwanted hard edges will be permanent once dry, and they dry quickly.
They layer well and dilute well as there is enough translucency to them. The white is fairly opaque and can be used to cover and to soften - even over the darks. Things can be achieved with them that can't be with watercolours and vice-versa.
If they arrive broken, not to worry as many artists break the sticks. In fact, they can be made into powder by scraping with an x-acto knife into a small container. Derwent even makes a small grater for this purpose. The knife works fine! Distilled water is then added and you have an ink wash to work with.
Full marks for versatility and immediacy. Definitely worth trying out!

Simplifies setting small rhinestones and what-nots!
I set a lot of very tiny rhinestones and this makes it easy. Much easier than the wax on a stick tool that I previously purchased. Don't think that this leaves residue. The wax did.
Have been told that it last a very long time!

India ink with a versatile nib!
Great company making coloured india inks available! Love the versatility of the nibs that appear to
be of high quality. A nice addition to one's drawing materials.
