Classic Mario gameplay met with a few fun implementations to create a refreshing feel for this classic Super Mario Bros. title.
This game is definitely a classic in the Super Mario series. All though, in my opinion, not the first completely well polished 2D platformer of the series (a title I would respectfully award to New Super Mario Bros. Wii) it is a close second to the currently final phase of polished 2D Mario platformers. This game certainly outlined what a modern 2D Mario Bros. game should look and feel like when playing it. Definitely a plus that this game is played on a portable console for arguably peak comfort (even though it would be amazing to play this title on a home console like the switch). This game introduces fun powers and a fun system for storing extra power ups on the touch screen. This game has a "1-up", so to speak, on modern editions of the in my opinion because of its quite balanced level of difficulty which can not only be a weak point in newer editions of the game but platformers in general. Overall this game is a super enjoyable (and in most cases nostalgic) experience that will give you a quite satisfying feel of what it means to experience the roots of modern Mario platformers and as a bonus this comes with 18 single player minigames and 26 multiplayer ones as well. It lacks co-op which is definitely my biggest gripe with this title but instead is substituted by a versus mode that can be quite entertaining but never live up to true co-operative Mario playthroughs.
