Like the love child of salted caramel and black licorice
When I opened up the bag, it smelled like a cross between salted caramel and black licorice. When I tasted it, it did taste a bit like that, though the black licorice flavor is stronger than the saltiness. There's almost a menthol-like quality to it. I can imagine it being good if you have a cold. It's firm, but chewy and the outside was not sticky, it had granules of salt and/or sugar on it. There was this complex salt-like note (probably the salmiak) lingering in the background of the flavor after chewing on a piece. It was interesting and intriguing, not offensive. I found it invigorating, it felt like it opened up my lungs. (Don't eat too much, though, they might give you a headache.) I'd definitely get more in the future. Also, as others have said, this is natural. The brand's website said that this was vegan and gluten-free. I didn't feel that sedated "sugar high" after eating a few pieces, either (which I'm happy about). [Warning: They do contain a bit of an ammonia note to them, due to containing ammonia salt. I didn't think it was too strong. But, if you find ammonia offensive to taste/smell, a candy with ammonia salt in them would probably not appeal to you.]

Great, especially after aging...
There weren't as many golden flowers when I first got the brick. Aging it helped. Over time, more golden flowers presented themselves. This isn't the only brick that I've noticed this with. Perhaps some don't improve over time, but every brick that I have has improved (not only this variety, but other varieties which also feature golden flowers). The taste reminds me a bit of roasted green tea -- sweet, woody. There's a light fruity note which is from the golden flowers. Once they show up, you can smell that there's a light fruitiness to them. That is what shows through in the taste. The tea is very relaxing when mature. Just like roasted green tea, it helps when I am tense. I'd recommend this tea. Just be sure to age it first.

Not the greatest quality...
When I was working through the pack of twenty that I got, I noticed that a number of them had rough edges rather than straight edges. They ended up getting caught on things and tearing apart. I've never had this issue with Mylar blankets before and I've been buying them for years. It felt like a waste. I'd get a different brand next time.
