Levellers : A Weapon Called The Word CD

Sound of my teenage years

I've always loved this album but never bought it as I had it on tape (yeah...remember those?) so I decided to just get it as my two young daughters are now showing a liking for the Levellers. As a lifelong fan, I love hearing the enthusiasm and energy of World Freak Show and The Ballad of Robbie Jones, and political songs mixed in with some beautiful melodies on songs like Carry Me and No Change. It has the rawness of a new band just taking on the world with the musicality of established musicians. Maybe I'm biased because it's the soundtrack to my teenaged years, but listening to it again I feel all anti-establishment and optimistic, which can't be a bad thing :) If you've only ever heard 'Levelling the Land' and think that's all they did, add this to your collection and then go and take on the world :)
