Fits the bill
I needed a player that was quite portable, and with a good range of connections. The Pioneer DV-400V fitted the bill, with HDMI, Component video and ordinary composite video output sockets. The output that is missing and would have been useful for use with my projector is S-video. The remote control is easy to use, and a handy feature is that the main functions are duplicated as buttons on the front of the machine.
By chance, I have a region 1 DVD, which plays happily in my other Pioneer player which covers all Regions. However, this is when I discovered that the DV-400V is Region 2 (Europe) only. It is not a great loss to me as it is only that particular DVD that is a Region 1 version. However, it is something a prospective purchaser should be aware of, and is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

Life in the freezer
Some time ago, I purchased two digital thermometers, one for the fridge and one for the freezer. The supplied button cells were of the alkaline type. The one in the fridge was OK, but the display on the one in the freezer would go dark after a short time. I discovered that Silver Oxide batteries perform much better than alkaline at low temperatures. I located this battery as an alternative to the original alkaline one on a watch battery cross reference table
Now after at least a month in the freezer, I always know what the temperature is. I would use these for the fridge as well. Recommended.

Hot melt adhesive
Not used much but when something has failed, hot melt glue can be the most practical way to fix it.
Most recent repair was blue face mask where ear cord had come off.
Super glue is OK but once tube is opened, it can dry out. And may not stick plastic.
