High hopes fell
This arrived well packed with extra screws, an Allen wrench, etc. The visual directions were just okay, the written directions make no sense whatsoever. It's like it was translated by an app or bot, rather than an English speaking person who has actually assembled this bookshelf.
The top shelf had been cosmetically repaired before we received it. Some of the holes for the barrel receivers were too deep, others too shallow so adjustments had to be made. One cross support piece cracked when we were screwing very cautiously.
It does recommend assembling on top of a carpeted surface and it's the only piece of advice that makes sense. I recommend a short pile or woven rug because you will drop a screw or barrel nut and it's no fun to dig through shag to find it. Only hand tools, two screw drivers, are needed. If you try to use a drill you will likely be sorry.
My husband and I have assembled a lot of furniture in our 33 years together, and this piece made the least amount of sense. So we just laid the pieces together and figured out what went where. There was a single long screw but no place to use it, although it was great for removing the top of the glue cap. And there is a random Allen wrench with no pieces that required its use. It took us about two hours to assemble.
When you are done, place it carefully and never move it. Make sure there are no children or large pets who will bump it because it may break. It is not sturdy enough for a medium heavy lamp or really even to lean upon. I wish I had not bought it but since I did, we will live with it until it breaks.

Medium blue
This is a lovely rug, very soft and thick and almost exactly what I wanted. Only it is not a light blue, more of a medium blue. Not a dark color, but definitely not pastel. I wish it were more of an icy blue or slate blue, which is what it looked like in the photo. I should have sent it back, but honestly it's a nice rug.
