EXCELLENT BOOK
I love descriptive prose, and reading the works of John Steinbeck have been a source of pleasure to me for many years. I haven't found any other comparable author. Recently, when I was reading a Rugby League publication, a contributor mentioned this particular work by Joseph Mitchell, so, I thought, "That's an excellent recommendation from a fellow Rugby League fan!" so, on impulse, I bought it! I'm about half-way through the book at the moment, and love his highly descriptive writing and attention to detail.Well worth the read.

IMPORTANT: Read the description carefully, or you may be disappointed!
I recently saw the full-sized, first edition version of this beautiful book at Birmingham Central Library. Obviously, being a rare book, it was not available for handling, and only one double page was available to view. So, I thought, I need a copy (affordable!) of that book; searched e-Bay, and there it was, at a very reasonable price (I think the postage cost more than the book). Unfortunately, what I bought was a tiny book! I should have researched what a "baby elephant folio" size is; and read the posting more carefully! Nevertheless, this is a tiny reminder of a wonderfully illustrated book.
