Hitachi TM-1000 SEM
2 of 2 found this helpful I own and operate one of these microscopes. I have refurbished two of them. When they are operating, they are a spiffy little SEM that is easy to operate and requires little operational maintenance.
Should you be contemplating purchasing a used model, there are a number of factors that you must consider. This unit comes with a rather special roughing pump that is wired into the vacuum operating system. New pumps are about $3500 and it is a major consideration if not included with a used unit.
The software, which runs on WIndows XP, is also a necessary requirement. I have never seen the software available at anyplace other than Hitachi. Each software package comes calibrated for a specific serial numbered unit. Software for one unit will run on another, but the calibration factors might differ significantly.
Service information is nearly impossible to find. Hitachi wants you to call them for any service that may be necessary. If you don't mind tinkering and understand SEM technology, it's a pretty nice unit, if not too expensive to purchase and if you don't mind searching the world for information and parts.
