Somethin' Else by Cannonball Adderley (CD, Sep-1988, Blue Note Records)
    Apr 09, 2019
The title says it all: "Somethin' Else" !
Jazz enthusiasts who are particular to the "cool" era of jazz, the period that followed "bebop", will very much appreciate this fine album by alto saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley.. The album features top notch musicians Miles Davis on trumpet, Hank Jones on piano, Sam Jones on upright bass, and Art Blakey on drums. It should be noted that it was a rare occasion when Miles Davis played on another musicians' record. But this is "Somethin' Else", and it so happens that Cannonball Adderley had played alto sax in the Miles Davis Sextet from 1957 to 1960, along with John Coltrane on tenor sax. Cannonball's exquisite sound on Miles' classic "Kind Of Blue" album is priceless, and it ranks amongst the best jazz albums of all time. "Somethin' Else" featured only five songs, when it was first released on vinyl on March 9, 1958. However, the subsequently released CD features a bonus track, "Alison's Uncle". The album begins with the classic jazz standard, "Autumn Leaves" and features Miles on mute trumpet, a sound he was famous for. My favorite track is the second one, called, "Love For Sale", which has a bouncy, Latin feel. Then, the title track, "Somethin' Else", followed by "One For Daddy-O" and then "Dancing In The Dark". The final track on the CD is the bonus track, "Alison's Uncle". The album was masterfully produced by Alfred Lyon. I highly recommend this album to all who appreciate fine jazz music of the late fifties.

1965 Topps #153 Norm Cash Detroit Tigers Centered EXMT- $ave COMBINED S&H $3 MAX

    Nice Card
A perfectly centered 1965 Topps baseball card of the great first basemen, Norm Cash. Corners are perfectly squared, no creases or discolorations. In all, a perfect example of a classic mid 60's Topps card. In my humbled opinion, the 1965 series from Topps is perhaps the most colorful, both in graphic appearance, and by the legendary players these cards represented: infamous veteran players from the 1950's, as well as soon-to-be legends of the late 60's and 70's.
