Not made correctly, no lifting power before it bends.
I have purchased a few over the years for gifts. And they work well. They are a copy of a old one I have. The one I just bought is not made correctly. There should be a slight curve in the blade so the left and right edges come up a little. This allows the blade to easily flex in the forward direction but not backwards when you are lifting something. The amount that this can lift is minimal, perhaps 10% of what it could do if it were made correctly. I doubt the people in China that made this ever used it. I am very disappointed. The new one I got really sucks.
I have a cookie spatula that I got almost 30 years ago was made in the USA by Canberry?? This Ateco looks like a copy, same size handle etc. The only differences are that the USA one uses a single rivet on each side to attach the blade to the handle (the Ateco uses 4 spot welds that fail over time) and that the handle is not made of Stainless steel and is starting to rust. So I wanted to get a replacement. Also, the USA one has a thinner more flexible blade and yet it can lift a lot more weight. I emailed Ateco and still am waiting for a response.
