Wonderful lens
3 of 3 found this helpful To be clear, this is not a cheap kit lens. Many camera and lens manufacturers have created zoom lenses of a similar range, and most are nowhere near the quality of this lens. While it is small and unassuming in its appearance its performance is stellar considering price and size. The images I have taken with this lens are absolutely beautiful.
I have shot prime lenses most of my life and avoided zooms because the images I rarely got results that I was happy with. I shoot a lot of landscapes and travel images most recently with a K-1 and typically tote around a Pentax 20mm 2.8 FA, a 50mm 1.4 FA, and the much ballyhooed 31mm 1.8 FA Limited, with the latter spending the majority of the time on my camera. After shooting with this 28-105mm lens for a few weeks I have relegated the other three to the trunk of my car and only pull them out for special shots that I want to spend more time setting up.
I usually shoot around f 5.6 -6.7 and the images are sharp and crisp with nice contrast and color saturation, and the focusing is fast and quite. After comparing some images shot by a fellow photographer I believe this lens is actually sharper than the new 24-70mm 2.8 D FA that costs much more, and since I rarely shoot at f/2.8 this lens appears to be a sharper and less expensive option. I think this lens will end up living on my camera most of the time. On a side note, I own 11 different lenses (and aside from my 31mm limited which is literally in a class of its own) the only lens in my arsenal that I like more than this lens is my Pentax 150-450mm D FA, but that one is by no means a “walking around lens”.
Summary: Buy this lens.
