Great Smart Watch for Athletes
I love this watch. It may sound extreme to "love" a watch, but as a new runner, it has really helped me manage my runs. The natural comparison is with the new Samsung Galaxy Watch, which is obviously a very nice watch. But if you are serious about exercise, I think you will like the Fenix 5 Plus a lot better.
The battery life is amazing. Be aware that with all watches, using GPS puts a huge strain on the battery. I can go on multiple long runs using the GPS and still have days of battery left with Garmin. I have a Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro and it would barely last two hours when doing a GPS run. When your watch dies before your run is complete, it is VERY frustrating.
The other big factor that kills battery is the display. The Garmin uses an always on LCD display. Most other watches, like the Samsung and Apple ones, use an OLED display which only turns on when you twist your wrist. OLED displays look awesome but they also kill the battery. The color quality of the Fenix 5 Plus is excellent in a normal lighting situation. Since the display does not generate light, you have to shine light on it to see it well. It also has a backlight that you can turn on manually by pressing a button, or automatically when you twist your wrist. If I were to change one thing about the watch, it would be the display color quality when the backlight is on. The backlight washes out the color some. But when you are running and need to see your watch, day or night the display is perfect, clear and easy to read. Fancy watch faces don't look as good when the backlight comes on.
The other big thing I love about the watch is it is NOT a touch screen watch. While that may seem to be a strange thing to love, when I run I sweat a lot. And my wet fingers cannot operate a touch display. I have found this to be a big problem when I was using my Samsung Gear Fit2, as I could barely select anything after I started sweating. And trying to use the display on my phone is equally challenging with wet fingers. Everything you do on the Fenix 5 Plus is with the side buttons. It works great. Once you figure out all the buttons, it is very easy to quickly go to what you need.
The last big thing I love is the ability to customize watch functionality. Watch faces are commonly available with all smart watches, but Garmin seems to go a lot further and allows you to customize almost everything including adding custom screens to your exercise programs. I loaded one that allows me to see everything I want to see while running on one screen: heart rate, average pace (over 30 seconds), cadence, total elapsed time, total distance, battery life, gps signal and current time. All of it is easy to read when running, even with my old eyes.
There is more I can post, but this is enough I think. The watch does everything you want a smart watch to do (except for maybe answer phone calls, since it does not have that capability), and it excels in tracking exercise. I do think the cost is high, especially for some of the Fenix models, but it is a great watch. I think it is the best you can buy right now.
Oh, and it only takes 20 seconds to switch watch bands! I do that almost every day...

Excellent Value and Looks Great
1 of 1 found this helpful Looks great and the quality seems very good. I ran it through the car wash and there was no observed water leaking into the housing. Although the description says bulbs are not included, they were except for the turn signal. That was a very nice surprise, and made installation much easier. They only negative is the light distribution: compared to OEM, it is very scattered. The OEM housings provide a very smooth, broad output. These provide a broken pattern, not so evenly distributed. However, even though the output is lower quality, I was able to adjust the beam so that is was aimed correctly and still works well for night driving. I am very satisfied. I wish the beam pattern was a little better, but that might be due to the black internal housing instead of the reflective internal housing. Regardless I recommend this product.

Exactly what I needed - works with no issues
I wanted to connect some old audio equipment on the other side of the room to my main amplifier, and running a 50 foot RCA analog connection is too far for that low level signal. My old audio equipment is at least 20 years old and does not have any optical out connections. So I converted the analog audio to optical audio using this converter, and ran a 50 foot optical cable to my amplifier. It works great! I listened to some old vinyl records for the first time in years and it sounded perfect.
